We picked up Patricia from the airport today for tonight's "I'm Woman Event." She is one of the nation's top young entrepreneurs and, at 25, has already leveraged her relationships and experience to grow her business. Like, the fact she was in a room with Seth Godin yesterday and is in Keith Ferazzi's book.
She is totally Bad Ass. And that's why she's here tonight, for one night only.
We've been sitting here in the office prepping for our event and the nuggets of wisdom popping out of her mouth are so valuable, I feel honored to be in the same room with her.
Here's just one of the nuggets:
Google it: someone, somewhere, has had a similar problem and has probably posted it. Type in your question and I'm sure you'll find the answer!
And now that we've got all of our prep work done, we're hanging out sharing crazy You Tube videos having a great time before we go set-up at Sacramento City Hall. Seriously, smart entrepreneurs that are willing to connect on an authentic level are in this room tonight.
We know you all are spoiled for choice here in Sacramento to be inspired during Global Entrepreneurship Week. Really, you need to be at this one. Your business will increase 10 fold.
Job Front: Sacramento hosts events for entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurs of the world, unite.
Today begins Global Entrepreneurship Week, the worldwide initiative led by the Kansas City-based Kauffman Foundation that brings together business owners, innovators, civic leaders and others to cultivate the next wave of entrepreneurial talent.
In Sacramento, the week dubbed SacGEW kicks off today at Arco Arena with a 7:30 a.m. mentoring session featuring local and national business experts. It's a chance to throw a spotlight on a burgeoning Sacramento business scene.
"Sacramento is a place that has fertile ground for entrepreneurial seeds," said Ricardo Robles, co-founder of Capsity Offices and Sacramento regional coordinator for Global Entrepreneurship Week.
"The goal is to inspire, connect and engage people and show them that they can be entrepreneurs at any age," Robles said. "There's a lot of talent here in Sacramento. It's just a matter of getting them into the right room."
Events will be held through Friday at venues across the area, including Arco Arena, Sacramento and West Sacramento city halls, the Citizen Hotel and the Verge Gallery. They will focus on mentoring and networking, developing green businesses, women entrepreneurs and other topics.
Local business leaders are among the panelists, including Sacramento restaurateur and small business advocate Griselda Barajas-Keolani; Tom Kandris, chief executive officer of manufacturing firm American River Packaging; and Ingrid Rosten, executive director of CleanStart, the Sacramento Area Regional Technology Alliance's clean energy initiative.
"There are lots of people in Sacramento who are incredibly entrepreneurial, who are taking accountability for their own risk and are making things go," said Jessica Chapman of Sacramento professional organizer Room to Breathe and an event co-organizer. "These are the unsung heroes of our regional economy."
